Evolution of the two-dimensional towards three-dimensional Landau states in wide parabolic quantum well

چکیده
Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations are measured in wide parabolic quantum wells with 2 subbands occupied in tilted magnetic field. Experiments reveal anticrossing of the Landau level (LL) belonging to lowest subband and last LL belonging to the second subband. Such anticrossing occurs due to decrease of the energy of the LL with tilt angle Q: This observation is supported by the measurements of the Qdependence of the activation energy in the quantum Hall effect regime. q 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Gazeau- Klouder Coherent states on a sphere
In this paper, we construct the Gazeau-Klauder coherent states of a two- dimensional harmonic oscillator on a sphere based on two equivalent approaches. First, we consider the oscillator on the sphere as a deformed (non-degenerate) one-dimensional oscillator. Second, the oscillator on the sphere is considered as the usual (degenerate) two--dimensional oscillator. Then, by investigating the quan...
متن کاملUnified description of floppy and rigid rotating Wigner molecules formed in quantum dots
Restoration of broken circular symmetry is used to explore the characteristics of the ground states and the excitation spectra of rotating Wigner molecules ~RWM’s! formed in two-dimensional parabolic N-electron quantum dots. In high magnetic fields, the RWM’s are floppy rotors with the energies of the magic angular momentum ~L! states obeying aL1b/L. Under such fields the ground-state energies ...

The study of a two-dimensional (2-D) system started nearly half a century ago when Peierls and Landau showed the lack of long range translational order in a two-dimensional solid. In 1968, Mermin proved that despite the absence of long range translational order. Two-dimensional solids can still exhibit a different kind of long range bond orientation. During the last decade, fascinating theori...
متن کاملHidden Symmetry, Excitonic Transitions and Two-Dimensional Kane’s Exciton in the Quantum Well
The influence of hidden symmetry on two-dimensional excitonic states in semiconductor quantum wells is investigated. It is shown that excitonic states in quantum wells, with the parabolic dispersion law for the electron and hole, and Sommerfeld’s coefficients for excitonic transitions are determined only with the principle quantum number within the framework of two-dimensional Coulomb potential...
متن کاملEvolution of Landau levels into edge states in graphene.
Two-dimensional electron systems in the presence of a magnetic field support topologically ordered states, in which the coexistence of an insulating bulk with conducting one-dimensional chiral edge states gives rise to the quantum Hall effect. For systems confined by sharp boundaries, theory predicts a unique edge-bulk correspondence, which is central to proposals of quantum Hall-based topologi...
